Getting from the airport into Dubrovnik

A shuttle bus is timed to arriving flights and runs to the main bus station in Gruž, stopping at the Pile gate right outside the old town, which is where most visitors want to get off. The ride takes around 30 minutes. Cavtat is much closer than Dubrovnik: it lies only a few kilometres from the terminal, which makes it a practical base if you land late.

What you can reach from DBV

Dubrovnik and Cavtat first, then Lokrum by the short ferry from the old port and the Elaphiti islands from Gruž. The airport is also the closest one to Montenegro and to the southern tip of Croatia.

When the routes run

Dubrovnik is the most seasonal of the large Croatian airports. Between May and September it is served from most of Europe, and in the deep winter the route map shrinks to a handful of destinations plus the connection through Zagreb. Booking a February trip usually means one stop.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get from Dubrovnik airport to the old town?
The airport shuttle is timed to arrivals and stops at the Pile gate, directly at the western entrance of the old town, before continuing to the bus station in Gruž. The trip takes about 30 minutes along the coastal road.
Is Cavtat closer to the airport than Dubrovnik?
Yes, by a wide margin. Cavtat is a few kilometres from the terminal while Dubrovnik is around 20, and a boat connects Cavtat with Dubrovnik's old port in season, so many travellers sleep in Cavtat and commute by sea.
